Below are the most commonly asked questions about our water conditioners, along with answers for each. If you have a question that's not listed, you can ask it here!
Q: Where on my home does the Aqua Maid Water Conditioner connect?
A: Our water conditioners connect to your home at the point-of-entry for your water, to ensure all the water in your home is treated.
Q: How long does an Aqua Maid Water Conditioner last, and will I need to replace it at any time?
A: All Aqua Maid Water Conditioners are designed and built to last a lifetime in your home. Under normal working conditions, your system will not need to be replaced.
Q: How often will my water system need to be serviced?
A: Frequency of service depends on which system you have and the number of people in your home. However, with an average of 2-4 people in your home, our water conditioners will need to be serviced on average every 1-5 years.
Q: How can I get a service manual?
A: Go to Products and click on products manual.
Q: What is the best type of salt to use in the system?
A: We recommend using any brand name of salt that is labeled for water softeners or solar salt in the crushed form. Don't use the pellet form because it will cake together and stop your system from working.
Q: How much sodium is added to the water by the softening process?
A: That depends on the hardness of the original water. This table shows the additional amount of sodium that will be added to your water.
Initial Hardness
Sodium Added
1.0 grains per gallon
7.5 milligrams/quart
5.0 grains per gallon
37.5 milligrams/quart
10.0 grains per gallon

20.0 grains per gallon

As a comparison, one slice of white bread has 161 milligrams of sodium; one cup of milk has 127;one tablespoon of catsup has 204.
